| SEQUEL: "Daylight Fright" 7 Indie 2004 Review by 21 February 2004 From Rock United UK Here's a really nice blast from the past!!! Sequel came out of Portland, Oregan and had several radio hits in the region during the early to mid 80's. Most famed musician here is bassist Todd Jensen (Harlow, Hardline, David Lee Roth, Ozzy, Steve Perry, Alice Cooper) as this was his first shot at the fame and glory. Guitarist Greg Georgeson currently plays with Tommy Tutone's traveling band and the other members of the band were David Wall (guitar/vocals) and drummer Grant Roholt. The band toured with bands such as Journey, Sammy Hagar, Bryan Adams,
The Tubes, Triumph, Aldo Nova, Icehouse and Greg Kihn, but disbanded already
back in 1985. The selftitled debut came in 1982 and "Daylight Fright"
was supposed to be the follow-up release. The cover art was completed
as well (see pic above), when the band called it quits and the music has
been in the vault ever since. Sequel has kind of reunited at least they
get together to play a show every few year. In early 2003 they also began
the process of listening to and releasing these 20 year old masters. There's
no need to worry about this being some crappy, old, demos as the sound
is very much "hi-tech" 'ala 1983 (of course). The music is freakin'
fun stuff in the tradition of Honeymoon Suite (the debut), Franke &
The Knockouts, Billy Satellite, or even Rick Springfield. Tracks like
opener and title track "Daylight Fright", "I'm Losin'",
"Over You Now", "It's Not Me", and "Pull The
Trigger", are all very enjoyable in that innocent 80's style. I'd
recommend you to check 'em out at their homsite where you can also get
hold of thier CD (or try them at CDbaby.com). |

| Sequel - Daylight Fright From Crossrocks
Highlights : I'm Losin', Daylight Fright, It's Not Me, Over You Now... Tracklist : |

Review From Powerplay Magazine In The UK I'm going to keep that old school AOR theme going for our next band Sequel. Hailing from Portland, America - Sequel originally released their debut S/T album way back in 1982. Their new CD is a collection of songs originally recorded in 1983 as the follow up to the debut. The album is titled "Daylight Fright" and the songs are highly reminiscent of that time period when bands like Ratt, Dokken and Great White had all just released independent product. When you first hear Sequel you will wonder how they ever got by-passed by the major labels as this is as good as those aforementioned bands in their early years. Their sound is a combination of the likes of Dokken, Black 'N' Blue and Great White with songs like "Over You Now", "Daylight Fright", "Untouchable" and "It's Not Me" being the pick of an impressive bunch. They still manage to get together and play the occasional show and if you want to see more on this great band check out www.sequelrocks.com |

Review From Melodic.net In Sweden Once in a while you come over some undiscovered gems. Sequel is one of
those undiscovered acts that I´ve never heard of and has recorded
a brilliant 80s sounding AOR album.<BR> |

| SEQUEL - DAYLIGHT FRIGHT From AOR
Dreamzones UK
In 1983 Sequel were one of Portland's best live bands and almost signed and had their album released with Elektra's Asylum records. The band then split but have recently got back together. Sequel was an early vehicle for bassist Todd Jensen who went to enjoy success with the likes of Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth, Marc Ferrari, Hardline, Doro Pesch etc... Sequel also features singer/guitarist Greg Georgeson, drummer Grant Roholt and guitarist David Wall. 'Daylight Fright' is a very catchy melodic rocker reminding me of Shooting
Star, this song actually charted in the top ten Northwest radio charts.
'I'm Losin' is also very catchy and melodic, this reminds me of bands
like Tommy Shaw and Giuffria and is a fantastic song with a glorious melodic
chorus and fantastic rocking guitars. 'It's Not Me' is pure melodic rock, whilst the excellent 'Pull The Trigger' is melodic heaven with a lovely chorus which reminds me of bands like Autograph, early Bon Jovi, Shooting Star, Coney Hatch etc.. The song is very catchy, AOR and melodic rock fans will love this song which is an undiscovered classic. 'The Jealous Type' is also very catchy with strong guitars and reminds me of Robert Tepper. 'Untouchable' is also really good, this song is more of an arena based rocker and reminds me of Survivor and the chorus is really hot. 'You Love You' is also an arena style rocker, this one is more simple, the chorus is a typical melodic style chorus and this reminds me once again of Shooting Star. 'That Kinda Girl' is next this, is more poppy but still melodic and reminds me say Survivor and Bryan Adams, Last up is 'She's Loaded' a burning rocker to end the album with, this is one of the albums best songs and is very catchy and could very well have ended rolling up the charts had it came out as it's a very good song again like Survivor, Autograph and also Henry Lee Summer. This is a great reissue well worth checking out! |
